Trying to be fashion forward while your purse strings are being tightly pulled can be easier then you think. For affordable shopping try Target- every couple of months they have Go International line and they features high end designers to replicate their designs that are friendly to your wallet but still have the runway quality. Another great store is Old Navy- this month they show case some of the hot trends for spring including mini florals on shirts, skirts and dresses. New York and Company have special sales and promotions every month that help you save and look great. When you turn on the TV and hear “in this tough economy….” Don’t stress- you can always look great and pay less- remember- shopping is the best therapy not to mention a great way to stimulate the economy!!

Spring Fever Fashion

Spring fever has hit the fashion pages once again. This season, pastel hues in thin t-shirt material is a great look for layering. Gap has an awesome ad showing how to achieve this layered look. What also hot are colorful sport watches, chunky strappy sandals, statement necklace, rose and flower embellishments accents on shoes and handbags. Spring fashion is all about colors and anything that makes you feel happy.

Cold Weather Fashion

How do you dress for cold weather in the tropics? Lately the temperature has been dropping in south Florida. Your best bet is to dress in layers. Wear a long sleeve t –shirt under a swing jacket or cardigan is a nice look. In the afternoon, chances are the temperature will rise and you can peel off your layers. I have a collection of light weight leather jackets-the biker jacket with hardware is specially versatile and can be worn mixed with dressy pieces or casual jeans. So when the weather gets chilly- layer it up and relax- it will only last for a little while so enjoy it!!!

Trench Details

On one of my many trips to the mall I noticed one of the trends this spring is the trench detail. New York & Company is one of my favorite stores to shop for work clothes. They have silk tops with rolled sleeves and trench belt. The blouse can be worn over kakis or nice slack. This is a smart conservative look for the office or for a night out on the town. Also making a come back this season is the sailor stripe. Stripes, in my opinion, never went out of style and is a very classic pattern. Along with the stripe are sailor pants. I like the high waist cut pants with the button details at the waist. New York & Company carry petite sizes from 2 on up which is great for us short people. It saves me money and a trip to the tailor.

Tis’ the season for the perfect Valentine gift. The universal fool proof gift for any girl is jewelry- you can’t go wrong. Statement rings in large, bright color stones complete an outfit and can be fairly in expensive. For a sophisticated look go for the Tahitian pearl in a cluster or in a simple drop pendant or earrings. If you’re still unsure just go for the roses and chocolate- most girls still love simplicity- in the end it is the thought that counts.

Promenade at Coconut Creek

With beautiful weather in South Florida what a great way to spend your weekend then shopping outdoors. That is exactly what I did – I found the time to visit the Promenade at Coconut Creek. A bit of warning to the mothers- this is a girl event- not a great place to take to kids and husband. The first store I went in was my favorite –Brighton. This store has great jewelry and some pieces are original. I had a charm necklace specially customized for me. The prices were also very reasonable. I also did manage to visit Chico- this store was a bit too mature for my taste but the apparel was fun and classy.
There were other boutiques which pretty much sold the same pricy brand in jeans and clothes such as Ed Hardy, 7 for all mankind, and Joe’s Jeans. Also in the main street the usual big retailers like Ann Taylor Loft, New York and Company and the Black and White store. . The Promenade is not completely finished- the food court was still under construction. All in all it was a great place to walk around and go shopping.

Ruffles, Plaid Prints and Shoes

Let’s talk ruffles. Ruffles are a great look and can be found on skirts, shirts, shoes and even handbags. One thing to remember about ruffles is to keep it to a minimum- just a touch is so sweet. You don’t want to go over board or the look is too girly.

Another popular trend is the plaid print. This print is showing up on everything this season. The button down lumber jack shirt with jeans and boots is a great laid back outfit. Plaid pants are hot but don’t go crazy with coordinating items. Plaid looks great paired with solid colors.

My favorite subject- shoes!!! There are all kinds of fun styles out there when it comes to shoes. The booties are big, flats, and strappy sandals are the trend this season. Look for the bone color when it comes to heels- they elongate you legs and go with everything. I saw these killer booties with cutout patterns with open toe in a bone color- it’s a must have!! The flats are great in rich jewel tone color and big baubles for extra sparkle.

Well it’s the middle of January and the latest in style this month according to the fashion magazines are the famous slouchy cropped trousers. I love this look because it is so versatile. You can dress it up professionally for the office with a great cardigan and boots. For the more laid back weekend look, this can be paired up with a fitted t-shirt and flats. Another great look this season is the boyfriend jeans. This is a great laid back look- girls we can finally break free and breathe from the skinny jeans. These jeans are just a loose boot- cut jeans that are cuffed. It looks great with flats, sneakers or even dressed up with stilettos.

For the accessories- my favorite is the never fail scarf. Make sure to get light, soft fabric that will work for you so that it is not too overpowering. Scarves can dress up any plain outfit. Look for bright colors and patterns- the ones with fringes are super chic. What’s great about scarves are that it can be worn in the cold or warm weather. Make sure to pay attention to the fashionistas for the different ways to wear.

Chunky jewel colored necklaces, bracelets, hair clips and brooches are layered for maximum effect. Bib necklaces in bright colors make a great statement worn over a T-shirt.

The “it” color for this spring are different shades of the neutral. Mixing muted shades of neutrals give your everyday wardrobe that soft- artful, sophisticated feel.
